In the midst of Kampala’s congested and polluted slums, MMI’s Slum Tree Planting initiative brings new life to forgotten spaces. Trees are planted in drainage corridors, near communal toilets, schools, and around water-logged areas to combat soil erosion, purify air, and restore dignity in overcrowded neighborhoods.
Each tree is a symbol of hope — improving microclimates, shielding homes from flooding, and inspiring communities to care for their environment. Children name and water the trees, creating a deeper connection to the land.
MMI works with residents, schools, and local leaders to ensure survival of planted trees, nurturing a culture of shared ownership and long-term environmental healing.
