Plastic waste is choking Kampala’s informal settlements — blocking drains, littering streets, and polluting wetlands. MMI’s Plastic Collection Drives mobilize residents, especially youth and schoolchildren, to pick, sort, and recycle plastic waste before it harms the environment.
Collected plastics are exchanged for food items, scholastic materials, or even sanitary pads — making the drives both environmental and humanitarian. Local recyclers are engaged to ensure proper processing.
These drives shift mindsets — turning litter into opportunity and educating families on how plastic affects water, health, and livelihoods in their communities.
